Wow...driving across Oklahoma is pretty boring! Nothing but flat land as far as the eye can see! Fortunately we found a great place to camp for 2 nights at Red Rock Canyon Park.
It was such a surprise find considering all the long flat roads we had been driving. The park had lots of hiking trails and even signs saying you could climb and repel but didn't see anyone doing that! (where's Mary when you need her?)
We took a day to go "get our kicks on Route 66" and our first stop was Sid's known for their fried onion hamburger. I really didn't know what to expect but it was GREAT! And the order of onion rings just finished out the meal.
We drove up and down some sections of Route 66 and tried to imagine what it would have been like to drive cross country on a road like this!
We visited a few of the small towns which were mostly dead......kind of sad to see all the business shut down. I'm sure Covid didn't help these little towns at all!
On a lighter note, Scooby really struggled at this campground with all the fallen leaves! His fur was acting like Velcro! It was hard not to laugh at him every time we looked at him. Unfortunately the RV took the brunt of this and needed a pretty good vacuum and deep clean when we left!
Our stop last night was in a small town called Tucumcari in New Mexico. We drove through the panhandle of Texas to get here and have to say that drive was pretty boring also. We've started listening to some pod casts and even a book on tape! If you know Bob he is not much of a reader but is enjoying listening to something on these longer drive days. Getting back on the road this morning with our next stop in Albuquerque, NM.
Scooby Scooby Dews... where are you? Oh there you are behind all those leaves ;-)
